As you know we have faced several challenges in getting the Aeolus ACC into full production. Each iteration has brought new hurdles we have tried to clear. At this time we have reached a point that we do not feel we can produce this product and attain our goal of Best in Class. We are therefore pulling this product from the line. We will continue to evaluate the best course of action to make a product that reaches our original parameters for this project. Until we have that course laid out, we feel it is best to withdraw the wheels from the line rather than continue to push orders off indefinitely.

NBDA ADDS $7500 TO QUICK-RELEASE FIGHT
New donation to be matched by suppliers.

Following an initial contribution of $7500 last summer, the NBDA Board has voted to commit another $7500 to defend the ubiquitous quick-release axle. The latest contribution will be matched by the supplier side of the industry, said NBDA Executive Director Fred Clements.

The fight is against a ban on quick-release axles that has been proposed in the New Jersey legislature. While the law, if passed, would affect only New Jersey, it might set a national trend, making the fight a national issue. The bill exempts axles that also have a “secondary safety device,” but fork tips apparently do not qualify for the exemption and there is currently no other technology that would.

The proposed law was a response to injuries to children riding Wal-Mart bikes with quick-release wheels, Clements said. But with the exception of some high-end BMX bikes, the kids bikes sold by independent dealers do not have quick-release axles anyway. The New Jersey bill as written would ban quick-releases on all bikes, adult as well as juvenile. Funds contributed by the NBDA and the Bicycle Products Suppliers Association are to be used to hire a lobbyist to make the case against the bill.-John Francis, Editor, NBDA Outspokin'

19th Year...The Best So Far!

Well I'm back from the River City Round Up West Trail Ride.

Day 1 - Gothenburg - The canyons were awesome, the food was killer...thanks again to John & Lawrence for letting us ride your beautiful ranch land.
Day 2 - Callaway - The Seven Valleys of Callaway are always beautiful and I am glad we got to ride them this year.
Day 3 - Merna/Broken Bow - The ride was good but the Bloody Mary's in Merna were not!
Day 4 - Ashton/St. Paul - The homemade pastries in Ashton were delicious...you know those ladies get up at 4a.m. to make all of those sweet goodies. The river ride on the Rest Ranch was superb along with the tasty fresh fried catfish lunch we had. It is just too bad Michelle's horse decided to lay down in the mucky riverside pond.
Day 5 - David City - The gulleys were a bit hairy, but everybody made it into DC for the big party. Jen & I were able to polish off nearly three Stripper's In A Bottle this year...thank goodness for Tylenol and Pepcid AC!
Day 6 - Czech Lake/Malmo - It was a good recovery ride...I missed the first shuttle van, which was a darn shame since I didn't have to ride the first 4 miles. Gizzards were enjoyed at lunch time...Keith really knows how to make 'em!
Day 7 - Mead/Pancake Feed - It was a long ride from Malmo to Mead but the 50+ of us made it in record time to see Marilyn & The Pancake Man...some headed home, others made their way to Freedom Park...this cowboy headed home, no Saturday morning parade for me. Those damn Shriner Clown's just scare me too much.

The 4 hooved bike is back in his pasture and I was glad to see my big wheel'd steed in the garage when I got home...the wife was good to see also after a week of father & son time where I slept in a horse trailer near my father who snores like a chain saw.

The XTREME 100 ROCKED!!!

I may have only done the Metric Version of the Xtreme 100 but it was still the best ride of the season. The route was hilly and super challenging! After all is said and done it was a great achievement. The 67 up, up, up, down miles formulated my furthest/hardest ride to date. It was great to have the peace of mind with 29erfan sag'n me the whole second half. Thanks again to all sponsors who donated, CJAMZ for all of his hard work, and thanks for sure to BLUEIF for more than just offering to let me grab onto the mirror of the sag truck. I almost took him up on his offer but I wasn't going to tarnish my ride by taking a mech assist. I can't wait till next year!

And remember, if it isn't a Hi Fi it better have big wheels...they just roll faster.

I took the Hi Fi out to Swanson for its maiden voyage yesterday morning. And let me tell you it performed just like that little flash video you see when you open www.fisherbikes.com. After working out some cable stretch and dialing in the fork & shock the eye catching Matte Blue, Genesis 2.0 engineered, sub 27lb. (19") weapon was cutting through the trees like you wouldn't believe!

The people at Cycling News have been testing one for five months now and back up everything I just said. I have been running SRAM since 29erfan introduced me to my Sugar back in '05, but the Shimano on my Hi Fi performed with precise execution. I'm not saying I have abandoned the fine products from the boys in Chicago, but when a bike is spec'd with XTR don't turn your nose.

Some people think what are you doing..only paper boys ride bikes with baby wheels. It might just be a phase I am going through or it could just be killing time until I can get a Hi Fi 29er. I don't know, but I do know the Hi Fi Pro is a suh-weet MTB. As CJAMZDAD says the number of bikes you should own is how many bikes you have +1. So rest assured the next bike in the BIG-WHEEL stable with be either a hard tail niner or Hi Fi 29er.

In closing, big wheels do roll faster...but Hi Fi baby wheels are faster in the trees!

If you are in the market for a rack or a new rack to haul your 29er you will have to make a different choice other than this eye catcher.

The Saris Thelma while nice and innovative, it lacks the ability to carry 9er geometry. It is designed for the biking soccer mom. I say that because it only weighs 26lbs and is very simple to use. The wheels trays/cups holds 20-26" wheeled MTB's and 700c tire equipped roadies. Intrigued by its unique design I inquired to Saris and the rep told me unfortunately it does not work with 29ers.

The friendly customer service rep reassured my faith in all Saris products with his attention to my needs. They didn't have a complex push this button...go to this menu crazy type phone directory. One selection on the keypad and you are talking to a living, breathing, and caring representative from the Saris Corporation!

Even though you can't carry a 29er on this rack, get a big wheel...they just roll faster!

I took the Tahoe in for its last check up before turning the odometer past 36,000 miles. I am always reluctant to leave the big wheel hauler (BWH) with a stranger, but the fine service techs at Tincher take good care of him every time. My concern was also alleviated quite a bit when they let me have this as a loaner.

2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer SS

It is quite fast in comparison to my Tahoe even with the Magnaflow Exhaust and AEM Cold Air Intake I installed on the BWH. Could it be because of the Performance All Wheel Drive System...could it be because of the Aerodynamic Styling...or could it be because of the fact there is sports car under the hood. Yep that's right, the Corvette LS1 is strapped in the belly of this beast! A Ford Explorer with a V8 thought it would beat me to the end of where two lanes go into one. WRONG! The Trailblazer SS lunged forward when asked like Puma on a Water Buffalo. The All Wheel Performance Suspension sticks to the road like week old road kill. The Aerodynamic Styling cuts through the wind like my Madone and is just as appealing to the eye. The inside was lacking something for my tastes...it needed something that goes mooo. The model they gave me had a cloth interior, although it was soft to the touch and very comfortable if I trade...the next BWH needs to have leather. I give it a 26 out of 29 rating...29er being the best.

Remember, get a big wheel...it just rolls faster!

The Train Robbers

I went for a ride on the Wabash Trace earlier this week and discovered how they use to rob trains in the old days. You need a horse, an ambush spot, and a six-shooter. Well I didn't have a horse or a six-gun, but I found a good ambush spot and was atop my trusty steed, a.k.a. my GF Sugar 292.

I rode 75% of the horse trails on the way to Mineola...no crashes, but there were a few close calls. Then I decided to press on to the old mining town of Silver City. You know back in the old' days there was drinking, shooting, and a whole lot whoring going on round them parts. It is very quiet now a day to say the least. I turned around and made my weary journey back to the trail head...hitting about 50% of the road apple scattered single-track on the way. There were a few climbs where my legs told me NO, but as you know what goes up must come down.

I made it back safe and sound,
minus a few near misses,
one crazy killer possum,
three curious deer,
numerous road apples run over,
no trains robbed,
no whoring had...
But a good ride none the less.

It's that time of year again where I trade my bikes in for a horse. That's right! Starting Saturday I will be making my way from Western Nebraska back to Omaha via a four legged hay burner. No pedals needed, just some Old West trail riding across the great state of Nebraska. Now there may be some hootin' and a hollerin' going on but that is only because there will be some drinkin' going on. They didn't invent saddle bags to hold just beef jerky. I'll be packing some schnapps and of course some single barrel whiskey! I will see ya'll when I get back. My horse has 29 inch wheels in case you were wondering...I couldn't ride anything else.

Everybody and their grandma were taking pictures of Lance on RAGBRAI. I think it is awesome that Armstrong traded France for Iowa, but come on give the guy some breathing room. Lance said he is going to come back next year but if I were him I would rethink things. Or get a really good disguise artist to alter one's appearance. He is just like you and me. Well that is if you don't take the following into account: he beat Cancer, he won the TDF 7 times in a row, and he used to date a really hot singer. Using RAGBRAI as a platform for promoting cancer research and the LAF is a great idea. Lance also wanted to experience something he has heard about for many years. How much can one person take-in while every body and their dog is trying to take and get pictures with Mr. Seven himself. I guess he had to expect the Mid West corn fed paparazzi to be all over him for the duration of his RAGBRAI stay. Oh well, life goes on and so will the LiveStrong train. Ride on Lance!

Pirates of the Caribbean 3 - Miss Swan & the Evil Parrot

Dizney has just released this screenshot from their next Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Sources have disclosed to me that the final trek in this trilogy will be even more hysterical than the previous two movies. "The antics of the parrot left me rolling in the aisle!", said Ebert. "Miss Swan and the Evil Parrot are a combination for continuous side splitting laughter." says Siskel. It has been rumored that even the actors had a hard time keeping their sanity during the filming of this timeless adventure. The outtakes and bloopers reel has a running time longer than the movie. The special edition DVD will with out a doubt be a collector's item. Release date TBD...

Welcome all, I created this blog 9 months ago and never made a post. Turning the page and getting this party started all because of a few tacos. Sounds like a good plan right? 29er powers unite!!! Brent, Blaine, Jai, John, Jose, Tyson, Jason, Brian, and a few others were there for last night's Taco Ride. Not everybody was riding a big wheel but we still love them just the same. We hit the trail about 7ish and made our way to the booming town of Mineola. It blows my mind at how may people will ride a bike for tacos & margaritas. *Epiphany* It's not for the tacos, nor the margaritas. It is about good friends and good times. No club card needed, no membership required. You just need a bike in what ever shape or form you prefer. Grab a phone, use a telegraph, or find a good carrier pigeon to relay what time and where to meet. It's just that simple. It may take longer for others to get ready so be patient. At the same time I adhere to these words of wisdom spoken by the late great John Wayne, "Let's get moving, we're burning daylight!" Speaking of daylight, you will need a light on your bike for the way back. Unless you ride at the speed of light like John does. Good conversation and some sweet singletrack later we arrive in Mineola. We found a place rest our backsides and ordered up some tacos. The beer and margaritas flowed like something other than wine. Still darn tasty non the less. Before you know it hours have passed and it's time to head back. *Warning* Some people don't know their limits so you will need to watch for the occasional drunk rider. I don't know the legal limit when it comes to riding a bike, but if there is one a few people we passed would get a RUI. We all made it back safe and sound. Good time had by all!
